Margem Hills is the home of Gary and Dee Dee Wells located just outside Portland OR in the Pacific Northwest. They are breeders of champion Chinese Shar-Pei. Margem Hills has been in existence since 1956 when the Patterson’s (Dee Dee’s parents) began in Basset Hounds. We have bred, raised, and shown several other breeds over the years (Shih-Tzu, and both standard and mini Dachshunds to name a few), but none have captivated us as the Chinese Shar-Pei.
Ever since the time the Patterson’s were judging in Hong Kong and met with Matgo Law, our family has been madly in love with Shar-Pei, a wonderful and devoted breed. Over several years following the initial visit in 1976, six Shar-Pei were imported to begin our breeding program. This program is devoted to improving and preserving this ancient breed. We stress health, disposition, and confirmation to the Breed Standard in our breeding choices.
Besides raising Shar-Pei, Dee Dee also judges junior showmanship at AKC shows, and she is a registered veterinarian technician, and has practiced for over 25 years. This has given her a great insight into raising dogs and is a great help during any medical problems that may arise. At present, she has 15 adults, as well as some youngsters in training for the show circuit.
We are not a large kennel. We normally breed several litters each year. Mostly for our own benefit to show and to further our breeding program. However, we do have some show, breeding, and companion puppies available throughout the year.
